Clothing & Shoes
Bongo, 415 Decatur St. Although Bongo has definitely gone in a rave-y direction, I (Misha) still have to include the store on this list for several reasons: They have a large stock of band t-shirts, some of which are goth, or industrial in musical style. They have cheap crosses & other necklaces. They carry manic panic hair dye, nail polish, and lipstick. And Bongo`s clearance rack is more often than not a good place to get basics –like lace shirts and velvet miniskirts at very reasonable prices.
Gargoyles, 1205 Decatur St. has historically been a mens clothing store, and mostly leather / PVC. But the store has recently expanded into the shop next door, and now offers a good amount of womens clothing as well, such as long black dresses, bustiers, clubbish clothing, PVC, and leather vests. Gargoyles also carries belts, body jewelry, fetish items, etc.
Heart + Sole, 527 St. Philipp St. Although shoes and clothing share approximately eqaul space at Heart + Sole, allow me to talk about the shoes okay? This is shoe heaven. Men`s Shoes, Women`s Shoes, all kinds of Shoes. Everything from your basic black clunky flats, to thigh high sparkly sliver PVC 6-Inch platform heeled boots. Prices range from fairly pricey to stupidly cheap. As you might have guessed, Heart + Sole carries an assortment of accessories such as stockings, gloves, socks, and make-up to round out your shoe buying experience.
Limbo, 1125 Decatur St. Trashy lingerie heaven. PVC brassiers, fishent dresses, and more black lace than you can shake a stick at. Limbo also sells mens & womens clothing, necklaces & other jewelry, Manic Panic hair dye & makeup, skull ashtrays, spiderweb stockings, fetish gear, and the usual New Orleans assortment of adult toys. For the Trashy Goth...
Ragin` Daisy, 523 Dumaine St #2. A relatively new goth-friendly clothing shop. They carry both vintage and new clothing, although I (Misha) found the new clothing to be a tad on the expensive side. Jewelry and fine pewter coffin flasks, too.
Second Skin Leather, 521 St. Phillip St. As the name would imply, Second Skin stocks quite a bite of leather: Corsets, bustiers, brassieres, pants, harnesses, hoods, vests, gloves, belts, cuffs, masks, whips, etc. – all geared toward the dark side. SS also stocks some lovely gothish jewelry, gorgeous coffin purses, body jewelry, condoms, and more... both mens & womens.
Stella Dottir Studio, 3205 Magazine St. This shop houses the creations of Stella Dottir, designer of faboo high-end gothic clothing. Her stuff is absolutely lovely, but fairly expensive. Bring the credit card!
Trashy Diva, 829 Chatres St. is a loveleylovely vintage clothing store, well-organized with the clothing thoughtfully categorized according to style and / or period. Check out their website for a sampling of their very high-end clothing – you can find nice items for considerably less at their New Orleans shop, especially if you don`t mind doing some sewing. Trashy Diva stocks both mens and womens clothing in periods from the Victorian Era through the 1960s, plus quite a few beautiful hats, necklaces, brooches, gloves, and other accessories.
